Welcome to this week’s edition of “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)

What is ‘MNM’ all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit on Mondays for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!monday

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.”  Last weekend, the box office arena welcomed 4 new wide release to battle Captain America: The Winter Soldier battle for top honors….and they all lost. Not just to Cap’s sequel but also to Rio‘s sequel. Sadly, Disney Nature’s Bears didn’t even make it into the Top 10 as it placed 11th which is unusual for Disney on Earth Day weekend (but it will grow on Earth day)…overall it’s a bust…along with Depp’s Transcendence! Cap took 1st for the 3rd weekend in a row while The Grand Budapest Hotel dropped from 8th to 12th this past weekend (see it while it’s still in theaters).

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, Apr 18-Sun, Apr 20:

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier ~$26.6M
  2. Rio 2 ~$22.5M
  3. Heaven is for Real ~$21.5M
  4. Transcendence ~$11M
  5. Haunted House 2 ~$9.1M
  6. Draft Day ~$5.9M
  7. Divergent ~$5.8M
  8. Oculus ~$5.2M
  9. Noah ~$5M
  10. God’s Not Dead ~$4.8M

*Actuals may vary as earnings are updated much later on Monday afternoons. For updates, visit boxofficemojo.com.

Congratulations to Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. (My review)capmondo

What did YOU watch this weekend?

Last week was a rather s-s-s-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-o-o-w-w-w-w-w-w week in terms of movie news, but below are a few quick stories you may or may not have seen:

#2- “Hello…again” More than 20 years later, look at who is coming back: Mrs. Doubtfire! Say “hello” again!

While there may be that one person in the world who is excited about this unnecessary sequel, the general consensus has been one of distaste. The sequel is in the works with both director Chris Columbus and actor Robin Williams to return. Mrs. Doubtfire was a huge success but that doesn’t necessarily equate to the sequel being as such…especially 21 years later!

In response to this news, actress Mara Wilson (who starred as Natalie in the original) stated on twitter:mara

..and I tend to agree with her.

Currently there is no news on the supposed plot…but I wouldn’t mind if it looked a little bit like this:

What is your opinion on Mrs. Doubtfire 2?

—Oh, and in other sequel news: Jerry Bruckheimer is still hoping to start both Beverly Hills Cop 4 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 this year!—

#3- “Watch ‘In Your Eyes’. Joss Whedon’s latest film In Your Eyes was quite a delightful surprise to many who viewed it at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend. Directed by Won’t Back Down writer, Brin Hill, In Your Eyes is a gripping boy-meets-girl film that definitely has my attention.in-your-eyes-poster-405x600

Courtesy Collider, here is the synopsis:

In the frozen East Coast winter, Rebecca (Zoe Kazan) is withering away in a life of cocktail parties and lonely nights as the sheltered, soft-spoken wife of a successful doctor. Across the country in sun-drenched, arid New Mexico, charismatic ex-con Dylan (Michael Stahl-David) is struggling to find his footing and a fresh start. When these polar opposites realize they share an inexplicable connection, a unique metaphysical romance begins.

Click the video below to watch the first 3 minutes and you will understand why I want to see it. (psst…you WANT to see it!)

Well, not only can you view the first 3 minutes, but Whedon has surprised his fans with the ability to watch it now on Video-On-Demand.

For only $5!! I already know what I’ll be doing today! You can click http://inyoureyesmovie.com/ to watch it yourself. Thanks to Joss Whedon!

What do you think of In Your Eyes? Do you like movie distribution via VOD?

#4- “Last Week’s Posters.” Take a glance at some of the new posters that released last week for upcoming theatrical presentations. Below you will find promotional material for How To Train Your Dragon 2, Godzilla, Third Person and more.

Which poster(s) do you like the most?

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” Sadly…nothing really…in terms of new releases that had theatrical runs. Seriously. Here’s what blu-ray.com even shows:april22

It’s a sad bit of offering from the blu-ray gods of Mount Hollywood-ympus. haha. Anyways, buy/rent what you will. I recommend just renting IN YOUR EYES (see story #3 above!)

Which will you pick up?

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!
